the very first thing i would do is to up the air press, then posibly a larger tip. if the primer is a hi viscosity primer you can reduce it just a little, it doesn't take much sometimes to get the spray to lay on smooth. gun distance can play into this also. what's happening is the paint viscosity is to much for your air press and or your tip size its not atomizing properly.

Jay, that did the trick. Put the pressure up to 35psi and it was better but 40psi was perfect.
Most of the primer is very smooth, I figured out how I was getting the pebbles, on the hood I was spraying with the gun angle at about 60* and starting on the outside of the hood and working my toward the center, the air was pushing big droplets in front of it so by the time I got to the center line of the hood the pebbles were like gravel. Spraying perpendicular to the surface now sorted that out. |
