Thanks doright! I've been shooting mainly aviation stuff lately... lots of polyfiber. I see from your signature your quite familiar.
Like I mentioned earlier, I haven't done any bare steel since before epoxy primer was the standard for autobody. And now.... I have what seems like acres of bare steel to treat on this 70's muscle car , as opposed to the od cowel or nose bowl I'd be doing in alodine. Here is the latest piece that went home last week.

Nice job on the Cowl, Alodine doesn't look burned at all, nice job.
Is that a PA12? Just don't know my Small aircraft like I should, I am into Heavy's. Cars are my hobby and escape, If I could get away with using my Dirt road and a field by my house for a field I would get a Project plane in a heart beat and dump all my car projects, but the State & the feds frown on using roads for Runways and taxi ways lol. I am SOL till I get a bigger piece of property. Thats a nice AMC Javalin you started 1970? I had a 69-70 SST in the 80s wish I still had it Dennis B.

Don't know that I've had a burned alodine part yet I generally don't leave it exposed for more than 3 minutes. Recently I've taken to using prep towels on top of the alodine application to avoid having it dry out, it's been working well.
The javelin is a 71, my grand dad bought it new. We share the same name so my name is on the original paper work, he gave it to me when I was 17, miss him a lot, dad too. I work with my hands every day like they did it keeps me close. If you have access to a field 6-700 feet you should build or buy a zenith 701hd cheap fun you'd have no issues building or flying out of a field that size. I'm also juggling these two projects with my brother.. Looking forward to flying them. |

I bet with a 10 mi hr breeze that thing would be airborne in 40 feet lol probably less! then land almost as short lol Back home in Alaska those would be fun.
That first one, that's F cool with the PT6! that thing is a Beast! wish I had one. What I want and need is a PA32R-300 or similar? for my commute to work. It would save me a lot of time every week, Instead of a 4 hr drive each way It would be an Hr maybe an 1.5 Hr with the preflight. When I treat parts in Alodine and AlumaPrep, I always try to use Tanks. Mix them up in Tanks and Just put a Lid over them the stuff doesn't go bad. Using Tanks allows a more even and controllable Dwell times. Its a lot easier to use that way than trying to use spray bottles, Plus No waist! Dennis B.

I was just reading through this again and noticed you sand again after treatment... Have any of the rest of you sanded 80 after the metal conditioner and neutralizing steps? |

Acid treatment and Cold Galvanizing treatment are two different things!
After cold Galvanizing You do not Sand the surface that would remove the Micro thin surface protection. Dennis B.

I just finished metal prepping with one choice... A pia. I've read all the horror stories, and even though I followed all of the tech data I'm still paranoid. This little voice in my head is telling me to scuff it w/80 after my mask up and before my final wipe down.
My thought is the one choice prepped any microscopic rust but scuffing will provide a bare tooth for the CRE to attach to as well.. To much analysis paralysis.. I have a few days to drill down on this. I have no white residue at this point. |
