Hello,
Wanting to paint my 2006 Jeep TJ Sarge Green (GG/PGG). I was wondering about adding metallic to the paint to make it pop a little in the day light. Should? Shouldn't? Thoughts?

That colour is a solid. You would have to add metallic at 1:1 before you'd even see it and who knows what it would look like.
It would be possible to put a layer of pearl over the green, doing it like a 3 layer pearl, with clear over the top. It will change the colour so I'd strongly suggest lots of spray out cards to determine the right colour pearl and the right strength of the mix and number of coats. If you don't do this research I can guarantee 100% that it will look like crap, literally. Chris

add it to the clearcoat. youll want to bury it under a few coats of clear.
do some sprayouts |
Any color work.... test, test, TEST..... it is never just as simple as adding a little of this or a little of that to an established color......

i would look into pearls, they can be added to your clear coat. be sure and do a test as they sometimes cause drastic color change to appear.

adding any metalic or flake or any other particle to a solid color is just going to give you a solid color. when metalic is added to a color the mix is mostly clear with a small amount of pigment and the metalic.

No, it doesn't. Your link is just to a flake. You need to understand that the flake alone is not the colour, just a part of the overall package which relies on a coloured base, the flake and probably a tinted clear. Change any one of these and you change the look and the colour. The colour on that sample looks to me like a candy. These are the most difficult colours/effects to do. Any unevenness in the flake or candy layers will show as a variation in the colour. Needs to be put on with robot-like precision. Chris

this is the house of kolor page showing how to create the color. basecoat black first, then flake in a carrier, then clear https://www.houseofkolor.com/kolors/det ... la#formula heres a pick of the tank on my scooter. basecoat blue, intercoat clear, layed stencil, basecoat black, pealed stencil, 2 coats of clear with flake, then 3 coats of straight clear. wet sand 600 then 2 more coats of clear.. the pic really doesnt show how blueit looks in person. the blue (other than the cross) is from the flake sprayed over basecoat black. |
