Hi guys
I just sprayed a door today silver metallic and it didn’t come out very well. Still learning. I put 2 coats of clear on.
If I wait 24 hours sand the clear down with let’s say 600 wet will I be okay to spray the base again at 24 hours? Or need to wait longer?
It’s been about 80 deg for that 24 hour period.

your product information sheet not msds should tell you. you should be able to look it up online ( google ). i've cut and buffed and resprayed at 24 or a little less and never had any problems. and with just 2 coats you should be fine, note the word should.

Thanks for your reply. Yes I did check the TDS. I am using Nason SelectClear. It says:
Is buffing considered the same as recoating? I don't see anything in the TDS about recoating time. |

Buffing is not recoating, it's coarse abrasive polishing.
If the TDS says wait 24 hours/overnight then it's safer to give it another 24-48 hours. Depending on the reducer used in the base it can still react after just 24 hours, even at your temperatures. Better safe than sorry. Chris

Thanks guys.
I went ahead and repainted at 24 hrs since the weather was good and was only going to get worse the next few days. It came out pretty good. I noticed that the fan on my gun when spraying base was quite a bit smaller vs when spraying the clear. No settings were changed fan was full open the whole time. Is this just because the base is thicker in general? Not sure what was going on there. |

usually, the base is thinner at least the stuff i use is. what base did you use, and what did you reduce it with, and how much?

It was a Deltron 2000 mix, 1:1, med reducer. |

That should spray fine. Sounds like the gun might need a thorough cleaning. Make sure the small holes in the air cap are clear. Just a little residue left over from cleaning can make a big difference. Sometimes a wooden toothpick can work good. JC.
