I'm restoring a 1972 Road Runner with the stock hood that has the engine callouts on it. Some people call these Boomerangs. They are fiberglass pieces that bolt to the top of the hood with studs. These came unattached, and so I have a question on how they are attached and painted. So, are they painted, then attached? Or are they attached and then painted with the hood? If they are painted while attached, is there seam sealer or anything that goes between the callouts and the hood? Wondering what the factory does and what is going to look best. Thanks!

My thought on this is anytime you can unbolt something or remove it without damaging, and paint separate i do it. i leaves a much cleaner look.

They are painted separate then attached. Use 3M single side adhesive mounting tape (foam tape) that is 1/8" (.125) wide x 1/32 (0.032) thick. Put the tape on the inserts, then install onto the hood using the factory studs and nuts. This takes away any vibration and wear against the hood.
