You have to shop around to get the best price on this stuff.
Right now, everything is going up in price.

What are you paying for a Gallon of that Platinum ?
I am stuck with what ever the local Jobber caries unless I mail order.

The last gallon I bought was $66 and some change. That was near the end of 2021. (I try not to use a lot of filler on my projects.)

Oh me too
I put it on Sand it off, Put it on Sand it off, put it on sand it off lol :rotfl:
My problem is getting the proper amount on the first time so I don't have to do dat.

Never fails though I end up with Multi colored panel not very thick but still. Just one of the many things in this hobby I still haven't totally mastered yet.

Dennis, have you tried mixing filler by weight? It means that you can duplicate, exactly, the mix you had before, which means it will be the same colour too.

That said, sometimes I want to next layer to be a different colour, so I can see the previous one. Then I just use the blue hardener instead of the red one.

On brands, I've tried so many I've lost count but 3M is the best IMHO. But, it's getting expensive for dust that ends up on the floor. Using Roberlo Maxilight at the moment and quite impressed. European style, fairly fine and easy to sand.

Yes I do mix by weight But didn't star doing it for the color it is a welcome outcome but I started doing it to try to get my Working time with the stuff more consistent.
Even when mixed by weight it is always Hot and kicks too soon, I have gotten used to it and just make smaller batches and just don't play around with it just get it mixed good without air pockets and get it on the panel and spread out like I want.

Anyone have experience with XL Microcel Filler? Made in USA but can't find any reviews on it.
Just curious since it's about $30 a gallon.

3M Platinum 01171 has gone up $11 a gallon since my last purchase.

Yeah, I could not find that filler reviewed anywhere. It is made by USC which is a good thing. When I look up a MSDS on it that shows that it has a lot of the right stuff in in it including amphorus silica and glass beads. It does contain non fibrous talc so it is not like a waterproof filler. It is incredibly cheap compared to what all of us are paying for premium fillers now. Look at this two pack special on Amazon....

Man, for that kind of money we might have to give it a try at least.

Thought about it but without a single review, I ordered my usual.

Many thanks for all the great info, I thought I was getting notices so thought the thread was done. I wrote down the names etc. Yes I have had to make a lot of very small batches, as this Evercoat pro premium I got really sets up fast. Tried less hardener but that just doesn’t set up fast enough. So am glad to know there are slower ones like 3M Platinum Select. Looks like the quart might be enough, but if I have to get more, I’ll get a gallon as I’ve got more projects lined up. The quart was ridiculously expensive, $42, but only $5 more than the quart of Bondo. (O’Reilly’s) Didn’t shop around, been rushing to get it done before it gets cold.

I may try 3M Platinum at some point BUT I have had to much success with Evercoat products its hard to change.
I know what to expect, They have a large assortment of products, I wont be changing any time soon BUT I am always willing to try different products.

With the Platinum you get a blue hardener.
When you add the hardener the mix turns green. The darker the green, the faster it hardens. If it starts looking light blue it hardens very fast.
