Is there any difference between spraying a truck chassis with epoxy primer by using either a spray can or paint gun with air compressor?

Yes, a big difference.

Will it affect the quality of work?

Rattle cans have their place but it is not in painting vehicles.
Strip to metal, prep the surface with 80 grit on a Dual Action Sander, clean thoroughly and then shoot a quality epoxy meant for automotive applications. It will usually mix 1:1(1 part epoxy with 1 part hardener) and should set (induce) for at least 30 minutes before you spray it. Spray with a 1.4 tip spray gun, properly set up and using an air compressor that puts out about 15 CFM at 30 PSI. The air should travel through at last 20' of 1/2 - 3/4" pipe to a water separator/air regulator and then through a particle filter before reaching the air hose. 30' of 3/8" diameter air hose with high flow fittings is preferred. read more here: https://www.autobody101.com/content/art ... ould-know/ 1968 Coronet R/T

The 2K canned products are ok those like the ones from Eastwood come to mind they have a special plunger or plug at bottom to release the hardener shake and spray. Their are a few other retailers of these products. https://www.eastwood.com/eastwood-s-2k- ... oogle&wv=4 Others like those from VHT are 1K products and are Junk. (stay away) If it does not state its a 2K and have a plunger or a way to release the hardener its not a 2K product again Stay away its not Epoxy or a urethane type product. At $30 a can from Eastwood You will be hard pressed to buy enough to warrant not spraying in from a spray gun, Each can will only cover so many square feet, It will be cost prohibitive to buy enough to do a full truck frame and suspension with two full wet coats to get the real protection Epoxy can provide. Plus it will take all day compared to a real gun not to mention the control you have with a real gun. Rattle cans Paint bombs are generally frowned upon here. Dennis B.

On that Civic I am working on I painted the underside with PPG Epoxy Primer. After I painted epoxy I sprayed some of that Eastwood Internal Frame Rust into the frame rails. I used Brake Parts cleaner to wipe off frame rails where it ran out. And guess what? It did not ruin or damage the epoxy primer. If it were 1K rattle can paint that Brake Parts cleaner probably would have taken the paint off. So there is a HUGE difference in toughness durability and metal protection between 1k and 2k paints.

Yes it will affect quality of work 1k products are JUNK! that fade chip scratch and peel quickly. 2K products don't not good ones. 2K products are Products that Perform over time and other chemicals. Beware some 2K products are better than others some good some bad, paying more does not mean better quality either their are some very hi quality stuff out their at affordable prices. That being said your not gonna get hi quality Paint in a Rattle can or at Joes corner Paint store. You need to know what you are buying because many sellers will clean your clock when you don't know! they don't care they just wanna sell paint and look good to their boss! Too learn more your in the right place just ask away we all will be glad to offer advice. Dennis B.
