I'm looking at "basic" Restore Shop paint, not the "house of kolor" stuff. The paint job I got only a few years ago is peeling. Can anyone here tell me if their stuff is pretty good so as not to do the same as the current paint??

TIA.

Why go through all that work with another risky brand of paint?

Low cost paints, even when made by big name brands, cost less for a reason. The quality and quantity of the ingredients is the only variable in the equation. It is the same for clear coat.

Use a quality paint and your paint job will be good for decades to come.

Get a quote from https://chad-sperry.squarespace.com/cha ... -and-audio for Automotive Art Motobase LV and have them ship it to your doorstep.

It is my go to source for base coat on all projects now, it sprays and covers very well.
In fact, it is what I will use on my 1968 Plymouth GTX.

I've used the restoration shop stuff from Global a few times when it was given to me along with the car I bought that had been painted with it. I'd always heard that it was basically repackaged PPG Shopline. It's fine to shoot however you can do a lot better for not much more bucks. The stuff 68 just referred you to plus a quality clear from Tamco would be the best route.

If that were true then that Es Pee Eye brand must not be very good.

if you happen to live somewhere that has an autobody jobber store ( not a parts house) stop in and chat with them about different products. my jobber caries about 6 different brands and very knowledgeable on all of them. they are USUALLY very friendly and helpful. i bought some clear from mine a while back, and told the salesman i had never used this before. he said let me know when your going to use it and i'll come out and help you, nice offer. it might cost a little more but the benefits outweigh the extra cost.

Compare that with PPG, you can easily pay twice the UV price, so
is PPG or other major brands twice as good?

So you think they are selling the same quality clear under the Shopline banner as they are PPG?
And if not, what is the difference between the top of line brands and the bargain brands?

You missed the point.
Do you think UV clear is a lesser quality clear than PPG?
Because PPG costs more?
If so, why are you not using PPG?
And if you think UV is just as good, it contradicts what you said.

I remember when UV clear first came out, it was a cheap clear,
relatively speaking, compared to the majors,
and the big question was, is it any good?
And some people back then said the same thing,
"you get what you pay for" and shunned away from it.
And now most everyone raves about how good it is (rightfully so).
The price is not a total indication of quality on anything, period.

If a company made a clear that had problems or call backs they
wouldn't be selling it for very long.
Some of these "cheap clear" companies have been selling
their clear for over 50 yrs. to people that love it.

Most MFG's will charge what they can sell it for, like any business.
And just like UV clear, once popular, the price went up.
Just like any product.
