Hi Guys,
I'm replacing a Mopar decklid filler panel and I don't know how to best seal the seam.
I'll be spot welding to the the quarters, but how should I seal the seam to prevent water getting into the trunk?

I don't want to use anything that will crack and make the paint look bad in the joint.
My best guess is a bit of polyurethane sealant smeared in from the top and finished with a finger wet with thinners or mineral spirits?

This isn't my pic or my car, but shows the joint I'm talking about.
THANKS!

I've just had a closer look at this and realized I wound be able to get my spotwelder in there.

I've never used a 2 part panel bonding product before, but I'm considering this option now as it would also seal the joint nicely.
Is this a suitable application for these products?

to seam seal that crack use some fineline tape and tape down each side. you determine how far in or out of the crack you want the sealer. run some masking tape out from the FineLine and inch or two. then run a bead and conture with your finger. pull the tape and run your finger lightly one more time to flatten the tape edge.

Is doing the exact same car and just did this repair on it, He has two of these cars I am sure he will have some insight.

What are your plans to deal with that Rust?

You can see how I did it here:

All rust has to be removed or it will only come back to haunt you.

Thank you. I looked at both your build threads and could see any detail about how you dealt with the sealing specifically.

As I wrote in the first post, the pic is not mine. I just used it to clarify the area I wanted to discuss.
I'm actually working with a Dart and there's no rust remaining in that area :)

Thank you. I was concerned that seam sealer may crack later, but I guess it depends on which product is used. Do you think a urethane sealant might be better?

I sprayed two coats of epoxy on all the bare metal. Then used an end mill to clean the spot weld areas before welding.

Covered the spot welds with epoxy primer and it will stay like that until I getting ready to spray another coat of epoxy. Which will be when I get trunk hinge springs sorted out.

At that time I will apply a urethane based sealer. I like the Lord Fusor 800HD series since it can be applied with a regular caulking gun, lays down great and can be worked if necessary.

Thanks everyone,
I'll pump some urethane sealer into the joint and smooth it over with a finger :)
