I have a 2014 CTS and the sunroof got stuck open. I've taken it to a few body shops and they've told me that it costs just under $2,000 to repair, and they say it would cost the same to just close it.

At this point I only have a few grand left on the car note, so it's tough coughing-up so much on just the sunroof.

I inquired if it was possible to pay less than $2k just so I can get it closed, but I've been told that, because of the labor involved, it would still be nearly just as expensive to go in and have it closed.

There's about a 6 inch opening in the sunroof, and it won't close; when I try, it makes a loud clicking noise but it never actually moves.

Is there any hope that I can at least get it closed somehow for a reasonable amount, or am I stuck like my sunroof?

have you searched Google and You Tube? i had an S10 and the heater core started to leak it was like 1500.00 or so to have the dealer fix it. i was told the hood, grill, pas fender and inner fender and part of the fire wall had to be removed JUST to get to one bolt. i looked on GOOGLE and a YouTube site, on the you tube site a guy shows how and where to drill a hole in the firewall to access the bolt. took me at the most 10 min to get the bolt out. should i say, "it was so simple a caveman could do it" I checked google there are several pages of information must be a common problem.

The info to manually close should be obtainable, not the first GM sunroof to have this problem.
The Chevy Tahoe Forum has good info on the Escalade,so not sure if the same.

I really like Sunroof cars and have owned several over the years including T top cars and convertibles. Its a small nitch Aftermarket world for supplying these kits that all Manufactures use in their cars.
One of My Mopar projects is a Sunroof car, Made by American sunroof while this company is still in business to this day they stopped making parts for my roof many decades ago, And its broke it needs a new Cable which I was able to procure BUT in your case Yes it could be very Labor intensive to get it closed. And I can understand the labor to close could be as much to fix it, As some of these cars may require interior headliner to be removed to gain access to the motor drive gear and cables.

Without having the car here too play with it I cant really offer much help.

I would suggest doing the research on the car find out what company made the roof because I am sure GM did not make it, After you find out who made the roof and supplied it to GM Then get a manual for the roof and go from their to order parts and possibly Find a Good Custom install shop who may have rights to install your roof in other cars as a Kit.
Its also possible that the factory shop manual for the car contains repair info but is not always so or is very Vague or lacking. Such as the supplied information for my Corvette roof in the factory manual it is complete to a Point but lacks necessary info for complete disassembly of the roof for restoration. And here again Factory original parts are not available and after market parts do not work or seal like the originals.

It would not surprise me at all to find out your roof is Made by American sunroof and was installed on the assembly line as a Kit, IF so I would buy extra parts and Rat hole them away if they are available before they become Unobtainable.

Another good source for parts is Junk yards keep in mind parts will Vary wildly by Year! so you will need to match exact year make and model, in my case I can use parts from 69-72 but anything after 72 No its all different. then on top of it in my case it has to be electric and Not the Manual model they made both and parts are completely different.
