I applied 4 coats of basecoat orange and let it sit overnight for approximately 12 hours, problem occurred I believe when I was spraying the base coat I was running a propane torpedo heater in the other bay to keep it warm. The basecoat laid out really nice I didn’t see a problem with it the next day tacked it off really well and I’m not absolutely sure on my first coat of clear if I noticed it but I did notice it on the second coat of clear.
I bought a new air hose Flexzilla about a month ago and sprayed my wife’s bumper and had no problems. My air compressor is 30 years old I have the lines run with galvanized pipe it’s a six horse with 60 gallon tank. My lines run approximately 60 feet before the filters. Tried to duplicate the problem today spraying 3 x 5 index card metal panels without the torpedo heater and everything came out just fine. I had to narrow down between being the air compressor and the heater. My desiccant beads blue when I started spraying the clear coats and the beads at my gun are still blue. All filters and compressor drain before I started spraying clear. Most likely the torpedo propane heater puts moisture in the air or fumes or both? those look like fisheyes caused from contaminates, probably from in your shop or on your job somewhere. thats a difficult problem to figure out. you would need to tell us exacly what you did and how you did it and everything in between.

What type of tack clothes are you using?
Some of the cheaper quality ones will leave contaminants on the surface. 1968 Coronet R/T

I use a torpedo heater with diesel fuel and it doesn't cause fisheyes here. With propane burning cleaner I would rule that out. I do have problems with the forced air blowing dust and debris around though. |

Everyone is saying contamination, is it possible base coat was not dry enough after 12 hours, my bad used Very slow reducer , shop temp 68 degrees.

Looks like good ol fish eyes to me. I would think 12 hrs at nearly 70 degrees would have been long enough for sure. I never get fish eyes in base for some reason, only the clear once in a while but I paint in an open shop with all kinds of stuff sitting around. |

Thanks for the help guys , appreciate the link to the painting issues.
At this point I tried sanding with the 600 wet then 400 wet actually dropped down to 240 wet and did not break through the clear it was taking me forever started on the top of the fender then I picked up a DA with 320 dry interface pad and did the whole top of a fender in about 10 minutes. Broke thru on an edge , I will rebase anywhere I breakthrough. Roof only took about 20 minutes got 95% of it out . I will hand block wet any of the minute areas with 400-600. Should I buzz over the 320 grit scratches with 500 to 600 grit on a DA with an interface pad? I was thinking of letting it sit for about a week or two before spraying . Let solvents escape . Still have to paint the hood , deck lid and gas door. Maybe I will hang the gas door up in the shop and spray it and see how it reacts .
