I'm just gonna spray my Grand Caravan in my driveway after I repair various holes and rust spots etc. Doing it on the cheap because I have to, just want to make it clean post repair. Also, I have no real experience.

So, which product would be preferable for a driveway project..??
Would I use a primer with this..??
Is a clear coat something I need to do..??
Any and all tips are most welcome.
Thanks.

Well I've been on Youtube and got just about all I can from there, but the place does not really lend itself to back and forth discussions. That's why I figure a forum about painting cars would be the logical next step.
Is there a reason why those brands won't work..??
Something better that won't break the bank..??
Any practical advice that would help me get the van painted..??

Ya see, thing is I got the idea of using a rust paint from Youtube. After repairing the rust and holes, the van will be a hodge podge of original paint and new primer. Complicating matters is the fact that I'm retired on a fixed income, otherwise I be looking at a different plan. But the van runs good, so I'm looking to get a few more years outta her while we squirrel away a few bucks toward something newer.

Thanks.

The answer is: NONE of these products can produce a decent result. That is why the pros here do not like talking about, or recommending these products. They are made with inferior ingredients, are so thinned out, so they can spray out of the can, and right now, are absurdly expensive, for what you get.
And You Tube is NOT the best source of knowledge for many subjects. Yes, there ARE very good people on there, but they are out outnumbered by the hacks by a huge margin.
Sorry for the rant, but getting tired of folks trying to get great results with crap techniques, and products.

I do apologize for such noobular questions, but noob is what I am. For the record though I was not referring to spray cans but rather to this...

Their paint also comes like that. I understand that it needs a mix ratio of 4/2/1(hey I'm learning).

And, if you go with something like that what's your equipment situation? What compressor do you have? What are it's spec.s? What gun or guns do you have? When someone tells us they are on a fixed income we don't think, "Hey, new hobby, got 3 to 4 grand laying around?" My paint job on my truck cost me about $1400 in just supplies and that's me shopping very carefully.... And, if you are set up to spray something like that it is not the right stuff! You need automotive grade materials.....

Auto painting and Auto body repair is not cheap Nothing about it is cheap.
Many of the top brands have a cheaper line called "Shopline" PPG and Dupont come to mind, which are much more favorable to use than that Junk.

Rust is repaired by cutting out rusted metal and welding the preferred method OR using Auto motive Panel adhesives.

Do the repairs the right way using the correct materials and the repairs will last a long time. Use junk materials and wrong repair procedures it wont last 6 months.
Your car your money but don't expect to much help doing things the wrong way or with sub materials.

Alas $1400. is beyond my range. Plus, I was hoping to get it done with an electric spray gun.

It seems I just may be forced to abandon any hope of cleaning her up until I have the funds to get something newer. Had really hoped there was a way.

I am using 20ga cold rolled steel welded into place to repair the holes.

That $1400 was for a complete paint job and believe me that was on the low side like Darrel said he shopped carefully for his materials, I would say $1500 PLUS would be the norm for a complete with decent materials and consumables.

Forget an Electric paint gun, Your home depot special isnt designed to spray automotive chemical based paints.
You need an Air compressor and not a cheap one either, Their are Turbin style paint guns but again they are not cheap either.

If you have to tool up for this its gonna be cheaper to find some one doing body and paint out of their garage to do it for you. Many of us take side jobs all the time and do great work.
