Hello all,
I need some advice doing a color change on a fiberglass body car (2001 C5 Corvette). The current paint (a 2 stage metallic red, "Magnetic Red") is in fair condition with alot of fine scratches from daily driving and being kept outside by previous owner.
After full prep, etc. can I just sand it and apply a 2K urethane primer or do I have to use a different primer before going to base and clear? What do you guys advise? Thanks!

2K primer is fine, but if you don't need the build of a 2K you
would be better off using epoxy primer. It really increases adhesion. Epoxy is much slower to cure which means waiting longer to sand but is a much stronger and waterproof primer. JC.

Ok, but will the epoxy primer do well with the plastic front and rear bumpers? (Rest of the car is basically some sort of fiberglass). Also remember I am going over the already painted surface which is still in good condition - just small scratches. Just wanting to do a color change ![]() |
Epoxy is actually better. Remains much more elastic than other, urethane or acrylic primers.
