Hi Guys,

Long shot here but.....I am doing a bike for a Guy who is very specific on the color. He wants "Dark Quasar Blue Metallic". All I can find online for codes is a Corvette color, "Medium Quasar Blue Metallic". I will be talking to our supplier later today but curious if anyone here knows if any car came with thi paint? I did find this: https://www.thecoatingstore.com/product ... paint-kit/ but I really perfer to deal with my local jobber. Thoughts??

Thanks!!

MY THOUGHTS, are IF your going to be doing work for other people, have them produce a COLOR CODE and the car make it came on. the names really mean nothing, the same color can be call something else on another car but still have the same code. THE thing that can happen is the customer comes to pick up something and says OH ITS THE WRONG COLOR. YOUR STUCK put this responsibility on the customer if its not right they have to man up. i learned this the hard way, hope you don't.

Great advise! If the customer is adamant about the color, he will also be your biggest critic if YOU paint it the wrong color.

Even when you order the code he gives you. I would order a sample and paint something with it for his approval. I had a terrible time with the '55 Chevy truck (in the projects section) because the Subaru Blue Spruce Pearl the guy told me was on the truck, was difficult to match.

The local paint supplier gave me his version of the color but it wasn't correct but he mixed it as a simple base coat and it turned out the correct color was a Tri-stage paint. In normal sunlight it looked dark green but under a camera flash it looked blue.

Fortunately, I had to replace the bedside steps and so I painted and installed one. This picture shows how the rest of the truck looks blue under the flash but the step doesn't.

All makes perfect sense. We already have the 1 code but the other is still unknown. Personally, once I have both codes I am going to get him to go to his local jobber and look at the chip. Failing that I will shoot a couple of panels for approval. For me, this is the first time I have been faced with this--it's always been "match it the best you can".

I agree about being the biggest critic. I want him to give the O.K. on the color before I proceed and likely it will be a spray out card for both colors.

Thanks!!
