I am in the middle of prepping my fiberglass 1979 19’ Pioneer Jet Boat for paint.
I will be using Tamco's 770 series High Build Epoxy primer after fixing a few small cracks.
So far, I have blocked the entire top with 180 dry and followed up with 220 on a DA.
Is this good enough for my first coat of Tamco HB Epoxy primer?
I plan on blocking out the first coat of primer and following up with a second coat that will get block/DA'd to 800 prior to the white BC/CC, then the graphics.
Thanks! BTW, the photo attached is about half way through the current prep stage.
What grit prep for HB Epoxy Primer?

Personally I would have wet sanded the Gel coat and Buffed it out to look like new or clear coated it.
Beware of Gel coat cracks, They are not cracks in the Fiberglass. In my opinion I would leave minor Gel coat cracks alone. Fiberglass damage is another story. I miss playing with Drag boats, Jets, V bottoms, Flattys, Tunnels and Hydros I still have brand new Edlbrocke Big block chevy 4 point eng mounts and some Exhaust stuff left for a Jet or V'drive all new never used. Was saving it to build another boat but I doubt I ever will. Dennis B.

Thanks Jay, I just wanted some confirmation as I start doubting myself as I'm still a part-time weekender hack and don't take enough notes on my various projects. It will get washed with Dawn, scrubbed with 3M Scuff-It, washed with Dawn again, rinsed well, then wiped down with Sem prep (solvent W&G) then a water based W&G. Then primed outside with a million bugs!!! The final paint and graphics will be inside where my Caddy is now in my white trash PVC paint booth. Problem is the graphics were put on over the factory gel coat by someone that couldn't pull a even line, looks like they were drunk. The pin stripping is also (was) garbage. My original plan was to flip it over and paint the hull white, then do the deck graphics, but I am running out of time (friggen Life!). So this is going to be a quickie (sure!!!) deck job only.
I use TotalBoat Thixo and epoxy Fairing compound. The cracks are already ground out.
Yeah, I've had about 30 boats in my life, grew up skiing on the Nor Cal Delta and still LOVE the look of a tunnel rammed Sanger flatty (I've had three). One of my favorite boats was a 21' Schiada River Cruiser that I had Justin Whipple install one of his chargers on, what a beast!! GPS'd over 105 at Berryessa, then I moved onto more family friendly wakeboard boats. Got the itch a few years back for an old school simple jet and picked up this one. Single four barrel BBC, Basset OTs, Berkeley jet correctly setup and it GPS'd at 74 mph up at Berryessa. Almost sunk it a few times as the bowl gasket was blown out, so here I am painting the deck...they would diagnose me as ADHD if I were young (I'm not). I'd love to stick on one of those new Edelbrock dual four (non-tunnel) intake setups on it mostly for looks but the boat runs great and isn't running too much cam - 0.325/0.313 lift and 235/241 degrees of duration at .050" Sent by the random thoughts from the voices in my head...

Berkley Split bowl with a Droop snoot and a Jet-o-Vator nice!
Needs a Ride plate! What size Impeller is in the Pump? any Mods on the Impeller? Does the Intake have a Shoe? How about a Suffer plate or Loader? I used to build a Lot of Jet pumps long ago. Sounds like you know your way around a Lake dragster yourself. Some day I would love to build a Tunnel Jet or get serious and get a Hydro. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVXOWuRIjhY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38lTXSr3cLU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DKvpgaf9wQ 0.325/0.313 lift and 235/241 degrees of duration at .050" Could it be De-fanged any more? your gonna need a C or D impeller lol My Lill Big block was 13.5 to 1 with a Little cam .630 .630 ported 990 Rat heads tunnel ram dual carbs bla bla bla I ran a Highly modified B impeller I went to the lake to have fun NOT relax lol I miss those days Dennis B.
