I have a severe de-lamination problem on my GM vehicle where the paint is separating from the underneath primer. I have learned after some research, that the failure was due to the primer (ELPO) GM used at the assembly plant. My trunk and roof are totally void of paint and is now spreading on the side panels.

The question is, can I get away with just striping off the remaining paint, giving the existing primer a good sand rub and applying an epoxy primer MP170 Omni ? Someone here earlier had suggested that if it was a primer problem, then the primer should be stripped. I really don't want to go there. I need a paint job that will last 3-4 years tops. Can I get away with it or must I strip to the metal ? Thanks for all your opinions.
