I see…thanks for posting that. I never understood why they choose a random psi number to rate the cfm volume, and I don’t understand how those numbers scale. So aside from my issue with stabilizing the pressure, I still may not be getting enough volume of air for the cap to work efficiently? I am getting results that I’m happy with, I’m striving for better.

Here’s a few small things I sprayed a few days ago. I’ll be spraying the entire inside of the boat here in a couple weeks. Also I realize this is an auto body forum, but I’ve been reading these forums for years and there’s a lot of knowledge here. And the fundamentals are universal anyway.

22CFM? @80 psi ? WOW!
WOW! thats a lot My compressor is capable of that but dang I would be looking at buying a different gun Thats a lot of air. either that or be prepared to spend over 5 grand on a new compressor.

As Jim said no theirs no way to make up air flow by dropping pressure they are totally different things.

Ya it’s a conventional style gun, or what devilbiss calls ‘industrial’. It’s the 765 air cap. You can see it on this chart.

22 cfm for the air cap seems like a lot to me? i'm like Darrel i've only used larger pressure pots 2gal and 5 gal. the ones we used had a regulated pot supply. you could literally stop the flow by backing the pot regulator off. it would take a few seconds for it to relieve the pressure. i'm wondering if your not getting to much pot pressure? Your application looks really good though. :goodjob:

Thanks Jay, ya seems high to me too…results aren’t perfect, but they’re definitely not bad. Pot pressure seems ok. I have a gauge on my pot and the airline going to my gun. Pot pressure I run 5-8psi, and the gun I shoots for around 45
