Hey everyone,

This is my first time doing a paint job, and I could really use some advice. I followed ChrisFix’s video on YouTube to guide me through the process, but I’ve run into an issue.

The areas I painted are turning out a bit lighter than the original paint on my car. I wet sanded with 1500, then 2000, and finally 3000 grit sandpaper to try to smooth things out but it still looked off. I decided to try and wetsand again but a bit more aggressive both in my pressure and grit. While wet sanding, I noticed the paint looked a bit better and closer to matching the original color. However, I noticed some of the base coat was coming off onto my fingers.

I’m not sure what I might be doing wrong or how to fix this. Is it an issue with my technique, or is it related to the materials I used? Any advice on how to make the new paint blend better with the original would be really appreciated! Also attached is the before and afters when I aggressively wet sanded

Thanks in advance!

First Ditch Chriss fix anything!

2nd You sanded through the clear damaging the base coat Probably in an effort to repair Sun damaged clear to begin with ? Once clear is damaged to the point that you think to repaint it the paint is done and it needs to be repainted.

It needs to all come off and repaint.

Dennis is correct.

Clear coat provides UV protection from the sun for the base coat. Once the clear has begun to fade the protection is gone and the base coat is compromised.

We can only see the sand through area in your pictures but it looks as though the original color was darker than what you are spraying over it. Did you have a local jobber match the paint color for you or did you order the correct paint code?
