Looking for a new spot weld cutter as the one I have is probably too big. The spot welds on the quarter I need to remove appear to be about 1/4" in diameter. The one I have is 1/2" so thought was to order 3/8" as that seems to be the smallest I can find.
Any suggestions on brand or any other suggestions?

Blair make a 5/16" cutter #11098
The trick to these is to start at low RPMs until you have a complete circle being cut and then you can increase the speed and pressure when drilling. If you spin them too fast at the start the welds will break the cutter teeth. Most cutters are designed to go around the weld and not through it. Carbide drills work but you have to maintain control or you can go too deep real fast. 1968 Coronet R/T

I also read to drill a 1/16 pilot hole through the center of the weld to keep the bit from wandering?

I didn't find it necessary except on a couple of nasty welds.

I always use a punch to put a little indention in the middle of the spot weld then start the bit. No wobbling that way.

For many spotweld removals I use a Dynabrade Dynafile. Rips through them quickly and the tool has countless other uses.
