I am trying to weld on a windshield molding clip pin. Once installed it only takes a small tap of the hammer to knock it off. The area is freshly sanded and also have tried different dwell times, (1/2 second to 2 seconds). The factory ones will actually bend without coming off. I have also used it for studs and they hold extremely well even when using the slide hammer.

I am using a new H&S Uni-Spotter 4550 along with their studs and the proper tip. I did several pins on another car years ago and didn't have a problem although I don't remember testing them.

Any suggestions? I might just have to go with the screw in pins for a peace of mind.

I am at a Loss here

Trim studs should not knock off easily as they are welded on.

I had to modify my Stud welder to put the Trim studs on my 70 Camero / Firebird. rear window and the Windshield frame.
Modifying it consisted of grinding away the Grounding lug so I could get te Tip and stud at the right height in the channel.

Go to 2 min 20 sec into video let it play from there, to about 4 min, this is not me lol

You know, I can try one thing. Since I am using a unmodified gun I was welding it at a slight angle to get it in the middle of the frame. Maybe it's not getting full contact.

I was contemplating modifying my gun like he did in the video but was hesitant without consulting ol' Google first...

Thanks for the reference!

There are a Few other videos showing same thing to the Gun, I used it as a Generic.
I have two stud guns / stud welders so I wasn't to worried And the Part is available as a replacement at least for both of my guns.
