Just an observation and maybe I’m wrong but is the car level as you are doing the panel repairs? I feel as the car should have the weight on the suspension to the extent possible when welding in panels or frame members.

Kudos for getting the quarter off without destroying it!
NOW If you can repair all the damage you did to it removing it so it can be reinstalled as an original panel, I will be truly impressed! and will leave you alone and just follow your lead.

Also It would be nice if you kept all your questions in one thread.

I want to help, I really do... but.....

Rambler racer, this is the donor car and I had the wheel off so I could get to the spot welds. The quarter skin IMO holds very little structural integrity of the car, it did not care one bit that I removed it. When I weld the panel onto my car though, I will have it on the ground.

Doright, sorry about that man! My mind can be a little scattered sometimes. I will do my best to address myself accordingly!
That driver side panel came off O.K. I could reinstall it right now, but it would need some surgery to make it look decent. Pinch welds will all have to be dollied back to perfection, and where it meets the roof is some tedious work! On the passenger side I have been taking my time, marking out ALL the spot welds and cleaning seam sealer areas, etc. the passenger quarter needs to be done with extreme care.

Lots of great info in it. He is a True metal master! In one of his Builds He removes both Quarter panels from a 57 repairs and straitens them perfectly then reinstall's them on the same car!

Pay particular to repairing holes part!!



Fantastic trick to repairing removed panels

Success, got the quarter I want off! With very little damage. Man, its tricky getting these panels off, definitely were NOT designed to leave the vehicle.

Doright - I am going to examine Chevmans sticky
(Already have twice) and I have a question. The next phase is remove the quarter off of my GN,
and mount this one up and start straightening up all the pinchwelds and tack it in a place or two. The seam where the roof overlaps the quarter will need to be filled, and Id prefer not to use lead. Im thinking all metal filler OR fiberglass short hair and then a finish coat (RAGE seems popular). Im sure the panel will have some imperfections as well and it does have a little rust at the bottom I will be repairing. Any advice on body work?

Don't use ALLMETAL or similar. Too Rigid wont flex and it will crack.
I would use Short strand fiber glass filler if your not gonna use lead.
