While welding in metal repair patchs ,the heat from the mig may distort the surounding area(s)? even using heat sinks and staggering your weld directions, peening the welds, there is good chance of changing the body profile from this welding heat? Is there a method with using heat(ie.torch) and cooling(water) to get the affected area back to its orginal contour or closer: so less body filler can be used to feather the warpped area(s)If so ,what areas do you apply the heat? to the high spots?or low spots? Is there an common procedure?Any other suggestions? Rhomer

Apply a soaked towel behind the welded area first, spread some heat absorbing clay around the welding area. Weld very slowly and allow each spot weld or two inch section of bead to cool off before continuing welding in that area. After the weld grind with a stone, it doesn't get that hot and won't warp the metal either.
