From one non-experienced welder to and experienced.... I am just learning and fixing to buy. Which one should I go with A small mig or small tig unit. I have some small places left to repair on the body before filling like panel fit-up and small rust holes. Please help before I spend this hard earned cash...
Thanks,
Randy

The small el-cheepo migs do not work well. My money is on the tig welders.

TIG is the choice. I have both A mig and TIG unit. The TIG is so much more control over heat and is 100 times cleaner weld. The draw back is it is much slower. If you go TIG make sure it is a AC/DC unit so you can weld both aluminum and steel. A "cheap" unit in AC/DC TIG is $1500.

Probably not a project for a newbie but I put together a 400 amp AC/DC tig, water cooled torch, water cooler, and remote amp control for about $600 shopping used and eBay. It is an older Miller but is a really healthy piece of equipment considering the budget for my non-fulltime shop.
