Does anyone know of where I might be able to obtain a fairly decent but reasonably priced Plasma Cutter?? Any suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks, Buddy

We'll need a little more info. What are you going to cut - mainly body sheet metal or do you need it for heavier stuff? What's your idea of reasonable cost - there are some minimal units out there between $500 and $1000 but I would be leary of the really cheap ones

Mostly I will be cutting body panels. The panels I need to cut are on a 57 Chevy, so they are fairly thick.

um.you could buy alot of body saws, shears and nibblers, and an air compressor to run them, for the price of a good plasma cutter,,I paid $3200 for my cutter, but it will cut 1" plate in one pass,,,I never use it for bodywork,,just for parting out old cars,,cutting framerails, roofs off etc...

Try a welding supply store and look for ESAB plasma cutters. These even the cheaper models are top of the line and will give you the cutting power you need. I used one recently on a 1955 Belair and had NO problems with it. Just point and cut it's that easy when you have the right tool.

HarborFreight sells a 35amp plasma for about $500. Anybody ever use one of these?

I would be leery of HF for a plasma cutter. Their brand of welders are notoriously cheap and inferior.

Craftsman makes a reasonable one. If your using it for sheetmetal you can get away with a smaller unit. ESAB makes a great unit, Mine are all Hypotherm for the warranty and the product. If your gonna use it alot (and you will, great tool) might want to look for something with at least a year warranty. HTH, TinBender Old Skool

I bought the one from Eastwood for around $700 to use on my 1957 build and it has worked fine. I have had no problems. I also bought their 110v Mig. I am a beginner so this is what I started with. I am only using them both for my restoration.
