hi all,

I've got sun damage on my roof, bonnet and boot area of my 2007 BMW E60.

I My first attempts to fix it by cutting it with Maguire Ultimate compound and a rotary polisher but I just seem to have made it worse and more obvious.

I'd be grateful for any help before I throw in the towel and go for a respray.

Thanks

Looks like the clear coat is worn off, so yes, buffing more
of it off will just make it worse.
Once the clear is gone, the next phase will be the base coat peeling.
The only fix is to strip all the paint off and repaint.
Painting over any of that existing failing paint will
just not hold up, it'll continue to delaminate.

Thanks for putting me out of my misery. I'll investigate a respray.

Yes, the paint is 16 years old and usually factory clear is very thin. Once the clear coat begins to fail, the UV rays attack the base coat below.
