Cutting compound ???????

. First of all I just painted my sons truck and am new to color sandind and buffing.After 4 coats of clear I wet sanded with 1000 because it had some dirt in the clear...Then I cut it with finess 3 compound and then finishing glaze,but I still see scratch marks from the 1000...I need some advice on finess What to do to make it right...Thanks Moondawg..

You need to wet sand it more with some finer paper. Step up 1200 then to 1500 or even 2000 grit. The use of the correct buffing pad also is important too. I have a bottle of 3M Imperial Microfinishing rubbing compound Part #39001 and on the back it says QUOTE "... medium cut, machine applied...it will effectively remove grade 1200 sand scratches..." SO, you can look into that. Then, after you have buffed it with that compund, you will need to change your pad, and move onto a "glaze". This will remove the "swirl" marks left from the buffing.
