Hi everyone. I have a station wagon with a dark blue metallic finish.
I want to paint soem ground effects off the car [and plan to add the flex agent if necessary]. They are a urethane material [easy to bend].
I plan to sand the old rattle can paint the previous owner of the ground effects did with 400grit.
I then plan to add the flex agent.
I am going to buy a gravity feed gun, 1.4mm nozzle to use with my craftsman 33gal compressor.
I plan to mix the paint 1:1 with the thinner, same for the clear.
Question is, how long should i wait between basecoats? I want to lay 2 basecoats.
How long do i wait to shoot the clear over it? I plan to work outside [proper mask etc of course].
How long should i wait to buff it after the pieces are installed? What grit would you recommend wet sanding with?
Any tips would be great! I just found thos forum tonight. Paint has always intrigued me as far as technique and abilities to lay a nice job down. I want to attempt this with a decent HVLP gun [just ground effects, and harbro freight has a cheap $40 gun, they just need to look better than their current paint-chipping-off rattle can state].
Hopefully, it will come out ok!
Should i also wet the ground etc before painting to not let the dust rise?
Thanks!
Dan
