I started with 1000 then 1500, finished sanding with 2000 grit, I cut and polished and could still see sanding scratches. Base coat it black. What's my next step as far as grit paper to use and after that...etc... does it look like I'm sanding it properly? ??
This is my first time painting black and it seems more difficult than anything ive done before. Thanks for your help in advance.

Chances are you didn't sand the 1000 grit scratches out
before moving on. Quite common.
It's hard to make them disappear with fine grits like 2000 and up.
It helps to sand in one direction with a given grit,
then the opposite direction or 45 degrees with the next grit.
It helps remove the scratches and lets you know which grit is showing.
I'd go back with 1500 in one direction and see what shows.

If there are only a couple of scratches showing you can just wet sand that area with 1500 and then 2000 and rebuff.

Another trick to check your progress while wet sanding is to wipe the area with Solvent based Wax and Grease Remover and check for any deep scratches before it flashes off.

And good lighting is a must have.
