what is "just a polisher/rotary buffer?"
if its one of them ones from wallyworld or the like, you probably wont get any results.
something like the porter cable 7424 at least is necessary. ive achieved great results with mine and lake country orange cutting pads.
cut and buff is quite time consuming with a DA polisher, but theres vary little chance of damaging paint/clear.

yes Tom it is a Canadian tire special for polishing instead of hand polishing. Upon reading a lot on this subject I think I'm going to invest in a da sander and a good set of polishing/compound pads
