Well the Griots garage DA and Lake Country pad just arent quite good enough for buffing out wet sand scratches (1000-1500-2000). It takes off the majority but its still hazy. Ordering the Dewalt polisher with wool pad and a bunch of foam pads to go with it. Using Megs 105 and 205. Makes me wish I hadnt sold the first Dewalt I had. I kept telling myself Im never gonna paint or cut and buff another car.....now I have three to do. Gonna go ahead and bite the bullet. Moral of the story....never sell tools.

Yeah, I get it.....every time I see a guy doing a demo with a DA style unit I want to rip it out of his hands and grab my rotary for him.... It is the same even with furniture. Lady had a local guy spend nearly 4 hours on her high gloss table top just to get swirls and halos all over using his DA. I went in with twisted wool and a foam pad on my rotary and 45 minutes later it was crystal clear.....

Yeah, Im working on the trunk lid. It was the first piece I sprayed with the new Fuji 4 stage and I hadnt quite figured out the clear yet. Its got a lot of orange peel so its been a PITA.

Any tips on wet sanding all the way out to the edges? I have some terrible orange peel and Ive got the trunk slick except the edges and it looks awful.

Carefully sand with 600 and re-clear.

If you don't have enough clear on the panel then follow the above advice.
I sand to the edges all the time but very carefully making sure the DA rotates "off" the edge and not into the edge. Same goes for buffing. 1968 Coronet R/T

I did the clear and its got 3 heavy coats on it. If I sand through I'll just repaint.

Ok pros, Ive wet sanded all the way up to 3000 grit. Surface is nice and flat. Buffed with 105 and 205 didnt get results I was really looking for. Went to body shop supply and got some Farecla G3 and same results. Lots of spider webs after buffing out wet sand scratches.
Buffing with foam pads, heavy cut and light cut TCP global waffle pads. Where do I go now? |
