I just finished spraying a replacement bumper panel. I used SprayMax 2K clear this afternoon. I am happy with the quality doing it in my garage with rattle cans. Almost no dirt nibs or anything. First time spraying.
Since I have no idea about orange peel, how bad is it? From the photo's - what do you recommend I do to get the orange peel out?
How long should I wait for the clearcoat to cure before doing it?
Thank you!

Yes it was a rattle can but it wasn’t a local part store special - ordered the correct paint code online. I was going to spray with my Gun but the pint I got wasn’t as good a match as the can they made.
Orange peel question shouldn’t really have any thing to do with that though - just looking for advice on strategy to rid of orange peel - wet 1500? Wet 2000? |
Yeah, start with P1500. Zillions of posts here about OP.
See your TDS re drying times. Chris

im not sure about spraymax, but most spray bombs have a low mil thickness per coat. sand through can happen very easily. i was taught that color/wet sanding will remove one coat. thats if a spray gun was used to spray the clear.

Yep, your headed for trouble unless you put 4-5 coats on. if you feel you have enough material on it you can use the 1500 and buff, be sure to cross your fingers, buffing an't easy!

My first step would be hold it up in position and see how it looks compared to adjacent panels in regards to the OP, and then determine if the risk vs reward warrants trying to sand and polish it out. I would also consider a light sand or scuff and shoot it with more coats of clear if you can get more of the same material. Then you can have less chance of burning through. It looks like a small part which also may make it difficult to polish.
