So are you 'inside" a building doing this? Black paint surfaces turn into an inferno of heat out in the sun and almost any compound wouldn't stand a chance of doing it's job. So, next what is your pad situation? Most of us start with twisted wool and something like Meguiars 100. I am not familiar with the 85.....

before wetsanding again, let some of these guys give some suggestions on how to get the compound off then switch to the products derrell mentioned. megs 100 is a great product BUT idk how it will act in that heat.

I was using a wool pad, with the Meguiars 85 the 85 on the compound scale they have on the jug it comes up to a 10, in comparison the Meguiars 105 comes up to a 12, the higher the number the more aggressive the compound is, I was thinking on a cooler day, I could redo the hood and car I'm just not sure what products to get,. Thanks

Just try to make sure you get that surface cooled down. If you have to do it in the middle of the night/early morning time. Also, you can take a slightly damp washrag with some ice inside and give a quick wipe to the surface. And, I know you said wool pad but is it truly twisted wool? Sanding again is probably going to help..... I think the 100 might be your solution.....

Actually it is the other way around. M100 is more aggressive than the M105 but contains no fillers and is the better choice in my opinion. The M205 is less aggressive and considered a polish.

The difference is that the M85 is an older style diminishing polish. What that means is it starts out very aggressive and than after continued buffing it begins to break down into a polish to remove the haze created from the scratches made in the beginning stages.

I personally find M100 is by far the best compound to start buffing with. There are times when used by itself with a twisted wool pad on a rotary buffer that the finish is good enough without follow up polishing. It is much better than the M105 that I used for years and if I am doing a show quality paint job, I only need to finish polish with Menzerna 3800 Final Finish and a black foam pad.
