Hi guys, I painted my car, then wet sanded from 1200 up to 2500, then with a rotary at 1500 RPM slow pases with a wool pad I used Maguires 100 then 85 then I switched to a orbital with Maguires polish, but I get this haze, what am I missing? Any ideas?
Thanks

Jumping from 1200 to 2500 grit is too much of a spread.

For show car work, I start with 1000 on a hard block to remove any orange peel and urethane wave. From there I move to 1500 grit on a soft block just to remove the 1000 grit scratches and then to 2000 grit to remove the 1500 scratches.

The M-100 will easily remove 2000 grit scratches when used with a rotary buffer and twisted wool pad.

Haze is usually from scratches left in the surface.

Another factor that guys don't pay attention to.... I notice you say "wool pad." Did you notice 68 says, "twisted wool pad." There is a huge difference in quality wool pads as opposed to what you pickup at an auto parts store or worse, Harbor Freight. This is just an example....

The Lake brand pads are about all I use now....

When buffing you will see the scratches that are there if you have good lighting.
Chances are you still have some 1000 grit scratches that weren't removed with the 1500.

clean between steps sanding/polishing
spend more time on each compounding step, possibly on sanding as well

ditch the wool pad go to foam

Ha, ha. I love my twisted wool pad! Foam just doesn't cut it.

Oh, I have foam pads too and use them during follow up steps but the initial cut with M-100 works like a charm with the twisted wool pad.
