I am painting my first Car. A 66 Mustang. Base Coat/Clear Coat PPG. The base coat is ok, it did have some minor texture (Orange Peel) on the last coat, but I figured that several coats of Clear, color sanded would make for a smoth surface.

Problem

I applied the first coat of Clear on a warm day for Seattle. By the time I was done the wind was blowing and dust made it into my garage. The first coat of clear has 2 problems, It is rough (Orange Peel) and has dust in it.

Question

Should I Wet sant the with 1500, 2000 prior to applying more coats? Or How best should I handle this problem

Thanks for any assistance.

I would try and wet sand them out. But I would use 600-1000 grit paper.if you sand through any spots you will have to re-base the area.

as for the orange peel, lay a nice wet coat of clear down, then the next coat a lil wetter and so on, get it to where it is almost ready to run but not
