Hi,

By buddy's hood on his 1970 Camaro came unlatched on the freeway and he has to get a new one. We want to paint the new one to match with silver base and black stripes/graphics like the old one. I painted my car last year and it turned out great.

However, I've never done stripes. Do I paint the base, wait a day or two, tape off then paint the stripes, then clear the whole thing? Or is it best to base/clear the silver, sand the area to be striped, then paint the black and clear over that?

Suggestions?

Would you recommend sanding the entire hood with 800 then re-clear the whole thing?

and do so while the BC for the stripes is still tacky-pull tape back on itself and a little angle away from fresh paint.

ive done a couple as dave laid out and they came out great.

just wondering if a intermediate clear would work to clear over your base color like dbc 500, sand that , lay out stripes then top coat clear ?
