The previous owner (PO) was rolling the car our of the garage and it got away from him. The door hit a wall, opened all the way and more. The hinges are stretched a little and the door stop is broken.
I am more concerned with the dent. The PO peeled back the door skin some and tried to fix it but no-go. I put some paint on it so it wouldn't rust. I was thinking of just replacing the door since I need to remove it some to replace the hinges. The dent although small, just looks like it will take a lot of time to repair and may still need some filler which may not hold up in this area. I am pretty good with PDR but he mangled it some.

Just get a new door, with hinges. That one's a throwaway.

both most likely the hinge area on the door is damaged as on the body. that door will probably never work right.

I was expecting that answer
Now I need to prepare myself for "Porsche Surcharge" applied to just about everything on this old 911. |

yes, I know all about Porsche surcharge I have a 356. best thing is to start searching for a good used door. start checking all the 911 forums for places to get used parts.

Yeah, I'd hit up the local Porsche clubs, vintage people, Porsche swap meets, Euro repair shops, etc. Those people understand the "pain" of these parts and although it won't be cheap they probably won't gouge you like a typical parts yard would.

if cost is prohibitive for you and if you want to spend some time on it you could repair your door. it might require you to remove the skin and reinstall it. it not a hard job just time consuming, I've done several.
