Hey guys, first post. So I did a repair on the hood my driver (2000 dakota/ silver paint). I sanded the whole hood with p220, made the repair, primed with nason 2k primer, blocked with 180, reprimed, 220, then wetsanded with 400. I did all of this after letting each coat dry a couple of days. About a month after painting, colorsanded and buffed. Looked great until a month or so after and then I could see the outline of the repair. Why?

i would assume without photos that it is edge mapping,
i will also assume you basecoated over your primer without sealing ? Experienced Trained Certified

I didn't. However, I have followed the same steps, used a 1k sealer and had tha same thing happen.

did you paint and clear the whole hood or just the repair area?

Whole hood. Painted the fender and it turned out fine. No sealer on either.

So, if this is edge mapping, how can I keep it from happening again? I'd hate for this to happen on this black job I have coming soon!

After priming , put your work out in the sun , for a day or two, let the hot uv rays of the sun dry your repair, let the sun cure it and shrink before top coating

Strange thing is that I did for about 2 days. Even sat for about a month before cut and buff. I'm wondering if I got it too hot when polishing and it showed up a month after. Anybody with any thoughts?

The question is, especially without seeing it, or photos, whether it is edge mapping or edges that haven't been feathered out properly.
One the one hand there is the situation of solvents in the base coat attacking the thin edge of the primer which results in a slightly crinkled edge while on the other hand an outline is visible, but not necessarily crinkled. OP, you, having done the job, should know which of those edges is the one you can see, given that the primer edge should be further out than the feathered edge. I'm assuming here that it isn't a filler edge that hasn't been feathered out completely. Chris
