So was the skin just spot welded on top of drip rail? the drip rail sandwiched in between roof structure and roof skin?
Other than taking lots of time to drill all the spot welds the job really doesn't look all that bad. Just take your time and not get in hurry.

Now, How well Will the aftermarket skin and drip rails fit?
That's the million dollar question!

Dennis,
The roof skin flange sits on top of the drip rails. If I was to do this again, I would use a 3/8" Blair spot weld cutter on all the drip rail welds. The 5/16" spot weld drill worked fine for the front and rear window flange.

There are a couple of must do tips to make it go much easier.
1. Clean the area well enough to see the all spot welds. A narrow wire wheel worked for most of it.
2. Be sure to use a center punch and mark the welds perfectly in the middle.
3. Use a smaller drill bit first and drill the center punch hole through the depth of the metal flange. Careful here it is easy to drill right though both layers.
4. Keep the drill rpms fairly low until you see a full circle cut in the metal.

As for the replacement panels fitting right, I will be spending the extra money for AMD panels, twice the price of Goodmark but the quality and fit are worth it.

OFB,
Most of this work doesn't really require tons of skill, just patience. You can't hurry this type of work, you just take it one step at a time and be methodical.

Hey Jim
Ya I know about how to remove spot welds.
I will Try the Blair ones I have Broke nearly all of My Snap on's, I like the ones by Snap on but they are brittle. The Flutes will break off.

Looking at this
https://www.amazon.com/Blair-11096-Cutt ... B002XML5HK
Is this their premium cutters ?
They look like they could be sharpened?

Snap on has a New design
https://store.snapon.com/Spot-Weld-Cutt ... 36895.aspx
I would like to try but they are expensive, look's like they are made from Carbide which explains why they are so expensive.
They don't even list the ones I have.

I will probably just get a few of these though there supposed to be made from Cobalt.

I got a Good Tip for you though
Try using this stuff on ALL your drills and your spot weld cutters for EVERY hole!
https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Qty-1-Orel ... ctupt=true
It will make your cutters last 100 times longer! It really is that good this stuff is MAGIC!!!!
I keep a bottle open and just dip my drill for every hole.

Yes, 3" of snow yesterday, another 10-20" possible Wednesday and Thursday!
Went out to the garage, looked at the car and went back into the house. LOL

Thought I moved away from this cold weather and white stuff. Fortunately I saved one snow shovel when I moved here from upstate New York.

All this fear mongering about Global Warming is really falling apart right now!

Snow on Monday all melted by Wednesday.
Then we got this last night. I measured a flat spot in our yard and it is 7" deep:

Snow on car 2.20.19.JPG

Forecast is for another 4-7" throughout the day and 2-4" for tonight.
I am guess AOC's forecast of worldwide death and destruction in 12 years from Global Warming is based in fantasy.

Need some help determining the proper shape of the inner support structure near the sail panel area.

In this first picture you will see where the structure increases in elevation but shortly after an indentation shows up. I am thinking that this area should be smooth and not indented like it is.
Roof Structure Rust Left SP 1 Marked Edition.jpg

The spot welds are where the roof skin flange overlaps the quarter panel flange. It is on the raised portion so I am assuming it should all be smooth.
Here's another angle:

The other side of the car is totally rusted out so offers no help.

Anyone have pictures of this area or know for certain what it should look like?

I would Talk to the Guys over at Moparts.com
BUT I am gonna go out on a Limb here and guess it might be raised there by the action of the Huge spot welders the factory used when attaching the quarter panel to the internal roof structure. Those things generate a lot of heat?

Some one there may have or know some one who has an old B body roof internal roof structure there as well maybe you could pick up cheap to cut up for parts maybe even a whole roof ? who knows you could get lucky ?

The Snow is also heavy here Mountains are just covered
Even Snowed in yard but didn't stick.
