I know this is an entry-level gun but hopefully good enough to do what I want to do, just a couple of decent base clear coat paint jobs. I read this was a step up over the Starting-line gun. The Finish-line came with a 1.4 and 1.6 tip, but they seem to be made of plastic whereas the Starting line tips are made of metal. Is this a big deal? And I would like some input from anyone that has actually used a Finishline to paint a vehicle. Thanks!

First of all the gun requires a decent amount of air to operate properly. 13CFM is what I believe they list so make sure you have a compressor that puts out at least 15CFM.

Try a search on FLG2 and you should find plenty of information on this gun from others who have posted about it.

I have an older FLG which I bought new.
Its an ok all around gun I use mine for Primers and Poly Primers primarily but have used it for Base coats and clears.
All my fluid tips are made of metal? I have Tips 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 1.8, and a 2.2 for it.

I did have one issue with it at one time where it would not spray properly, In that it would not put out a Proper cigar pattern, I had a hard time correcting.
This was after spraying Poly primer through it.
I had cleaned numerous times and had replaced all the seals mutiple times trying to correct it, Turned out to be a Micro size chunk of paint stuck on the Needle right on the very Tip. It was extremely small but was all it took to mess up the spray pattern.

Even after multiple washing of the gun with Laq thinner did not remove this and wasn't discovered till I inspected the gun parts under 10 power magnifying glass!
After scrubbing the needle with Laq. thinner and Scotchbrite pad removed it the gun then Sprayed like a champ again.

Thanks for your input guys. I don't know if you can even get replacement parts for this gun. It's unused but has been sitting my cabinet for years. If nothing else I can use it for primers and chassis paint. It's kinda odd this one would have plastic or composite tips and yours would have metal.

You can still get some parts for it I would think Devillbiss is pretty good about that.
Devillbiss made some paint guns with plastic throwaway parts or disposable parts rather than cleaning for a while.
Sorta came along when the D'cups disposable cup system came out if memory serves me correctly.

Your fluid tip should look like this:

Maybe your talking about another part?
Such as the Baffel ?

Just me but If I were shopping I would get an FLG4 or a GTI or even a 670 Plus gun before I would buy an old FLG2 there are many on the market cheap. a GTI can be converted to a 670 plus gun with a simple air cap swap. Instant $300 gun for $50 aircap.

I would chuck the fluid tip right off the bat on this one! The air cap also has some scratches I don't like but appears to be usable.

Yeah, they look those but they are made of some kind of black composite material. The gun I got did have a stainless one-liter cup, guess they had to cheapen it some way. I can always replace the fluid tips with metal ones at some point if it becomes an issue. What tips are best suited for base / clear and primer?

I use a 1.8 for Hi build primer
A 1.4 for Epoxy
a 1.4 for Base
a 1.4 for clears
As a general rule, That said I have stepped down to a 1.3 when Tech sheet said 1.4 all depends on how you like to paint ? fast, slow? heavy, light?
I always start with what the mfg says on Tech sheet as a starting point and adjust from their.

Clear as Mud I know
