Has or do anyone use microfiber towels and wipe down towels when using isopropyl cleaners before painting. I been using the blue shop towels they sell at Autozone for years but always know they leave dust. And figure tack tagging would get it up. Give me your thoughts because I dont discriminate on using towels. I'll use a whole box on one car but at 40 a box for some decent so called lint free towels just ain't worth it

I buy both from Costco.
Use the blue shop towels for most everything except cut and buff.
Quit using the Isopropyl mixtures for cleaning a while ago and just use Automotive Wax and Grease remover for wipe down now.

Against all advice to the contrary I have always used, and re-used, flannelette cloths for both Prepsol and final alcohol/water mix cleaning.

Yes, they leave lint but then I always thoroughly tack and blow before painting and rarely get crud in my jobs. Booth cleanliness and wearing at least the top half of a paint suit has a bigger impact.

I do not use micro fiber towels for anything,
They hold trash to easily and don't let go of it.
All it takes is one little piece of grit and you end up scratching
everything with it.
I'll stick to cotton where I can keep it clean.
Lint is not a problem, grit is.

I have a lot of furniture people that use microfiber towels/rags. You have to watch the cheaper ones that are bulk packaged.....they use a pure polyester (think fishing line) thread around the edges to keep them from unraveling. We did some in-shop testing and found that thread could easily lay down scratching and leave holographic swirls especially on dark colors. If people insist on using them I tell them to cut that outer thread completely off.
I use a furniture grade wilized frenching 100% cotton unbound edge material I buy in 5 pound and 50 pound bales. Stuff is awesome and only softens with age/use. Ours comes from Mohawk Finishing. And yes, it is all I use on cars or furniture and both clean and polish with them.

Dennis, yep that's the stuff. I've used it for 40 years now. Bought a 50 lb. box/bale of the stuff in 1987 and just finally ran out last year and ordered more. I can use the rags many times just by washing them (hot detergent water, no softners or dryer sheets). If you ever have to do hand polishing of a hard to reach area the shine can rival a machine finish with the right compounds.

i use micro fiber cloths only on expensive paint jobs, Harleys, custom semis etc
