Is there any issues or concerns spraying high build urethane primer with a lvlp gun with a 1.3 tip?

Other than the fact that it won't atomise properly, be porous and look like you glued beach sand to the panel?

.........Nah.

Well, is it the tip size or the type of gun causing the concern?

Tip size. Even an LVLP gun with 1.8mm (or bigger) should lay down high build primer well enough. With a high pressure or RP gun it's common to reduce pressure when spraying primer - if only to reduce overspray when it's often done out in the shop, rather than in the booth.

If you thin it a little more it'll spray fine.

Thanks,
I need to buy a tip kit for my gun.
Just wanted to make sure lvlp gun wont be a issue.

I sprayed a car about 10 years ago and used a hvlp gun. Caused to much over spray.

What these guys said.

I would add that 1.8 is the smallest tip if you are going to shoot build primer without reducing it.

Adding reducer decreases the amount of "build" you get and requires and extra coat or two.

I use both and really don't notice much of a difference.
You can adjust either type with pressure and viscosities to get what you want.
