Hi,
I need to paint a few chainsaws. I would like to use automotive paint and need a detail gun. The Sata guns are beautiful, but would break the bank. There a $10 guns on eBay, but that seems too cheap. What budget friendly guns work well?
Thanks

I've used one for 20 yrs made by Astro.
They seem pretty good for the money to me. I'm sure most any of them will work fine for you. JC.

Most of the Astro guns are made by Star in Taiwan. Some of my Stars are approaching that kind of age and still going strong, proving my contention that they are bullet proof industrial quality. Which model do you have?

Yes, I too have been using an Astro Pneumatic EVO-4018 for a very long time. Bought the 4014/4018 kit when I first started painting again. Sold the EVO-4014 when I bought my Iwata LPH400 but kept the 4018 to use as a primer gun. Still have it but they don't make a rebuild kit anymore for them.

I Googled EVO-4018 and found quite a few. Is it the same as this? If so, it's a Star S4000 with 1.8mm green HVLP cap and 1.8mm needle/fluid tip. Parts are still available here. Chris

Yes, that its.
I have tried contacting the company and searching the net for a rebuild kit. (seals, springs, etc.) only to be told they don't make them anymore. I see a guy selling "new" EVO-4018s on eBay but figured they were left over stock. They are well made guns, easy to adjust and if you replace the plastic cup also easy to clean. 1968 Coronet R/T

Mine just says Astro HVLP & Star, I don't see a model number.

Hmmm, that's interesting. Mine looks just like the picture NFT5 posted.

Try this mob: https://airless.com.au/ It's a new web site and doesn't work very well, including not showing parts listings, but I know that they do carry an extensive parts range - I've bought parts from them before for much older Star guns and prices were quite reasonable. There's an email contact on the web site that might be more useful - send them a picture of your gun for easy identification. Chris
