I have a question about epoxy, I have shot it several times and always seem to get an orange peel from it, normally I would sand it smooth and then proceed to body filler and high build. Is it necessary to sand the epoxy smooth if I use heavy coats of high build to prep or will it all follow suit and continue with the orange peel?

I use a 1.4 tip to spray epoxy. Treat it like a base coat.
You should be fine going with your 2k. I would shoot 2-3 coats and then block sand until you start to see your epoxy. Repeat and use a guide coat on the next round of blocking.

Thats cool, so my only gun with a 1.4 is my paint gun, I have been using a 1.8 for epoxy and other primers, its an Iwata air gunza, should I get a dedicated with a 1.4 or with good cleaning techniques okay to use it for both? In your opinion.

I thoroughly clean all my guns after each use.
On many jobs I have used the same gun (Iwata LPH 1.4 tip) for epoxy, base and clear.
I have a 1.8 for 2k primer.

Thank you 68, I feel my gun is cleaned very thoroughly after each use, my concern was that epoxy is a bit different with the chemical bond, as opposed to standard primers and paints. The gun I am using for paints and clear is an Iwata W400. Will give it a shot.

Oops took a look, I thought it was a 1.4 W400 I have a 1.3 W400, guess I’m in the market for a good 1.4 gun lol.

Yes that is correct, I have an air gunza 1.8 for epoxy and high build. 1.3 w400 for base/clear. I am either going to find an air cap & needle 1.4 for my w400 or shop for a new gun with 1.4 tip.
