You would think a wearable item would be easy to get from any Napa type place or any dealership. Must be a Ford thing.

I don't know But do know they are in short supply. There is a 3 washer set up and a single thick washer set up, I guess the single thick one is for the Auto hubs which I have. the Three deal is for manual Hubs. Personally I like my auto hubs why every one goes to Manual I don't know throw back to earlier I guess?

I finally got it all back together last night got to get out there today change the engine oil check all the boxes and lube the rest of it. install the new fuel tank selector valve and new radiator. all I need now is a New seat for it and Paint it some day lol its starting to look really bad but its a work truck so I dont worry to much about its looks as long as it runs and drives good.

Calvin says to me now that I did all this work spending my money fixing it hes gonna take it out 4x4ing in the mountains, I told him to stop tearing up my chit and go buy his own and and tear that up! Just because its a 4x4 doesn't mean you go beat the heck out of it trying to break it or get it stuck. The mentality ?????? He has no respect for my stuff.

Manual hubs are supposedly far more reliable but obviously not nearly as convenient. Where I live the road conditions in the winter change drastically from my house to town. Getting out of the truck to lock or unlock the hubs several times is impractical. Autolock is so much better in that regard.
I agree, the boy should tear his own stuff up. Serious 4 wheeling really beats on a vehicle at the best of times.

Well just completed a 4k Mile round trip drive with the Old Ford. 1900+ up to Tennessee and 1900 or so coming back, Lost the upper Radiator hose going up around Gallup New Mexico and Two tires coming back in Elk city, One tire Broke a Belt internally other the tread just started coming apart both at same time, was lucky that a shop took care of us quickly after staying the night in a Local hotel. I cant rave about the Texas Hospitality though. I drove the Truck into the shop they wanted $450 for two very old very used tires mounted and balanced a $650 for two new ones!!!!! Oh gee let me think what I do????

Hi way Robbery!!!!!

Oh well I made it back home with my new Prize a New to me Old Jeep CJ7 in Tow its a Beast! I need to repaint it and clean it up a bit cosmetically but mechanically its very sound and very reliable. Previous Owner had it set up for Tennessee Mud Trails and Hunting Deer. It has a 4 inch lift 4:56 gears front and rear and Detroit lockers front and rear and the Transfer case has been modified and re geared with lower gears, the 33 inch tires on it now are for Mud I need to get some Hard core Rock tires on it not much Mud hear but lots of Rocks!
I am not one for tearing stuff up out on the trails but I do like to use it for what it was designed to do which is Getting where you want to go without getting stuck or breaking stuff.

I Cant wait to go have fun with it planning some very remote Trout fishing trips here in Nevada Arizona and California with it and Getting back into my Metal detecting for Gold and coins.

I will be fully restoring it body off! in the future for a full repaint after I get all set up for the Desert. First off I have to put Air conditioning in it! Then It needs Rock tires, 2 Jerrycan Gas can holders and two 5 gal water Jerry cans plus a way to carry two spare tires! a Winch and some heavy duty Bumpers front and rear.
The Old AMC v8 thats in it is original and runs good but I will be going through it to freshen it up a bit with a fresh Valve job, Oil pump, pistons rings water pump etc. you know the drill. I may put fuel injection on it too but love the tried and true Two Barrel carburetor its got.
The headers they put on it Have to go! I want the cast Iron Manifolds and dual exhaust that's plenty, I hate fighting Header exhaust leaks! This one is no exception they leak pretty good. It does have a couple spots of mild rust but will be a very easy fix its very minor in drivers floor and driver front fender but very very minor!
The Back were they all rot out is totally rust free I couldn't believe it till I inspected it in person! Its a Very rust free survivor with a Hard top!

Sounds cool. Put up a pic so we can see it.
I did a full restoration on one about 20 years ago. Mine was a total rust bucket. I assume it has the 304 in it? It's a pretty decent little motor, mine had the 258. The crappy little t5 trans blew up so I put a beast np435 in it.
The stock roll bar isn't great, if you built a decent one you should be able to incorporate spare tire mounts somewhere on it.
If Calvin wanted to borrow the old Ford for offroading he's going to go nuts trying to get his hands on this one
So does this put the bird on the back burner?
I started on the wiring that finally arrived. Seems like every step has me doing something that needs to be done first. Can't wait to be done with the under dash part, very uncomfortable work

Ya I dont like under dash stuff myself. I just pull the Dash any more.

Ya Calvin thinks its really cool, The Keys are hidden!
No the Bird is back to front and center gotta finish it!

Jeep is usable for camping and fishing as is. Took it for a spin yesterday put some gas in it and took it up the hills out behind my place a Bit. It has a few rattles and Knocks I have to investigate find out whats loose but rig is pretty stout.
The Gearing is SUPER LOW! I can put it in 4 low granny get out with it in gear idling and walk around the thing b4 it moves 2 feet! Its gonna b a great off road rig. I have to get some Rock tires for though the Mud tires it has are way to soft for the Rocks out here.

Yes it has the little 304,

I can't really pull the dash, it's welded in and everything is painted so welding it back in would mess it up. That and half the wiring is going to the switches, controls and gauges. Just have to take my sweet time so I don't cripple myself anymore than I already am.
I keep having to find parts, clean them up and paint them with every step of the wiring so that helps break up the pain of wiring.
I almost bought a Gremlin with the 304 back in the mid 70's. It was pretty darn fast, it was a 3 speed floor shift manual that I didn't like. Had it been a 4 speed I would have bought it. I swear that thing could have run with just about any muscle car on the road. Would have been a lot of fun.
I'm guessing rock crawling tires won't be too cheap.

Ah The Gremlin X, I remember it Fondly! always wanted one, I had a gremlin with the strait 6 It was a Blast with it as a Kid in Alasaka.

I wanted one too had plans to get one and put the 401 in it with a 4 speed.

All my cars the dash just unbolts and comes out too bad the Mustang is welded in, No fun!
With the seats out, steel the wife's Couch cushions! lay on those. Thats what I would do lol

A Gremlin with a 401 would be wild. It would be a great project.

Over the years we've replaced a few couches, I kept several cushions for that exact purpose. Works great but you still have to get in and out of position which is getting harder every year. To make matters worse my right shoulder is frozen so my mobility with the right arm is limited, really inconvenient.

I fixed the fender and repainted, still need to sand and buff. Bit by bit the stang is coming together. Problem is when I discover I need some part it takes forever to get it.
