my new paint has some pretty decent orange peel. i plan to wet sand it starting with 1000g. then 1500,2000. then polish.
my question is whether or not i need to sand the paint perfectly flat before switching to polishing, or if the polish will level it out further.
another question, if i don’t sand it perfectly flat near the edges and some holes, will it look horrible, or just like polished orange peel?
reason i ask is i really don’t want to burn through, and have to respray it.
this is in a boat, not a car, but i assume that doesn’t make a difference. there is already waves in the hull that i wasn’t going to straighten, so i’m not shooting for perfection, just a nicer reflection if that makes sense. (sharper?)
question on how much to wet sand fresh SS urethane

assuming i want to get to what the center of the secon pic looks like? more wondering about not getting there near the edges and what that will look like.

Run a piece of tape along your edges to protect them. Same on any body lines.
It isn't necessary to sand until completely flat. This is for show cars, not daily drivers. Sand a bit then squeegee off and dry to check progress. Chris
