This post is regarding a job that was done on my car actually before I knew more about paint.
So the rear bumper had been hit or something, it was scuffed deep into the paint, it was through the basecoat so it needed respray. I asked them if they could fix it and all and they said yeah (was added job to insurance job). Now, when the car is really clean or really dirty it's perfect, but as soon as you get maybe a little bit of dirt and dust it starts to look like this. The smudges are my finger swipes to show.
Now my question is, does this mean it wasn't blended correctly, of the sanding wasn't feathered properly or can anyone identify what may be wrong, or if this is expected when there is dust in a blend?
Thanks! By the way guys, I do a few posts but everytime I learn stuff and it helps me out so I thank you very much!
Why does this paint repair look like this? Question to learn

and i thought id seen almost everything. i can't explain why it looks ok then not ok with a little dust on it. and the colors seem to match well where your finger smudges are. i can say from looking that it appears that they didn't do a good job of prepping the area,
they didn't feather the area. then it looks as though maybe no primer or sealer. I JUST DON'T KNOW maybe we both will learn something. Jay D. they say my name is Jay

Ahhh ok wasn't sure, I thought sometimes maybe blends when dirty made it pop out. If this was a perfect job, blending would be like 99% not noticeable even with dirt right? I've been trying to get a picture of it clean but it's too cold to clean the car lol. |

that's a BIG YES on the blending, dust or no dust. it should look perfect ALL the time.

My thoughts are that they simply repaired & refinished only a small section around the damage. Technically the incorrect way to do it, but sometimes you can get away with it. You often see these types of repairs performed on used cars for sale to pretty them up for the next sucker.
Proper repair should have involved R&I ing the bumper, removal of everything attached including the park distance sensors, sand/scuff the entire cover, repair, refinish and blend color as necessary, and reclearing the entire cover. |
