Hi, first post here so I'll try my best to explain my situation in as much detail as possible.

So I just recently repainted my fender and driver's side door on my 2015 Black Corolla and I'm having some issues with the clear coat being slightly hazy. First off I sanded the parts down to primer with my random orbital 180 - 400 gritt. Than I sprayed Rustoleum primer sealer. Next I sprayed my base coat with 4 coats duplicolor black pearl. Finally I finished with 3 coats 2k Spraymax clear coat. I didn't do any color sanding and waited the appropriate length of time between coats according to the products and research online. I did all this during the evening with the humidity around 60 and maybe slightly cold outside.

So at first everything looked fine the next morning when I looked at the car. Here's where I think went wrong. I still had some 2k clear left which I placed in my fridge thinking I would be able to extend its pot life. At that point it was past 48 hours but I happened to spray the remaining which was probably around 1-2 coats on the parts. Few hours later I look at my car and see this light haze around the area in which I resprayed earlier. It almost looks like not enough base coat and the primer showing but I know its not because it just happened after the final clear spray.

I know its kind of hard to understand without pictures but I will post some soon. If anyone can help with some advise I would really appreciate it. Hopefully this work can be saved because I put a lot of time into this. Thank you.

Well, that's kind of a mish-mash of stuff you laid down. I'm pretty sure that the primer you used has a shellac base, the color you used is acrylic lacquer, and then you sealed it all in with catalyzed urethane. Under the urethane now I would not be surprised if you didn't have both trapped solvents and moisture. Uhhhh....no simple fix for this....should all come off and go to a regular base/clear system this time....

Hey thanks for that input. Without doubt, I believe that will be the best resolution but I was just wondering if that primer sealer is actually shellac based because there is no mention of it on their website or data sheet.

In fact, they actually have their own product line of primer sealer which is shellac based but maybe there's more to it that I don't have the knowledge about.

I'm really new to this stuff, so please excuse my lack of understanding regarding all of this information.

The problem is the Rustoleum "umbrella" of divisions/companies that they now represent. If that is the data sheet for what you actually used, then the way that reads is as a synthetic alkyd using lacquer thinner like vehicle. Honestly, though, same problem.... mixed systems of stuff that can easily interfere each other, again trapping solvents and moisture.
A decent automotive base/clear is a system specifically designed to avoid problems like you have now. I'd still just get it all off there and go PPG, Dupont, Tamco, etc.....

The primer was not the problem. Using 2K clear that was 48 hours (+?) old and probably near freezing cold, was.

More is not better.

Too many You Tube videos showing hacks painting cars with substandard materials. Of course they look good for ten minutes after being completed and while the video is being produced.
