So it was. Don't know where I got the idea it was basecoat.

Yeah, go for it. Sand it down flat to P800 wet, wash it clean, dry and go with your base.

As for the colour of your sealer the ideal will be in the formula that was used to make it up. Different brands of paints can call for different value shades depending on how they formulate the colour - whether it has high coverage or whether it relies on the undercoat for shading.

If the greys are similar then probably don't worry too much. Spray out a card to test if you like.

Hey Chris I appreciate the help, I sanded the spots and they came smooth with ease. I had one spot that showed through so I probably need to touch that up but all the rest turned out
great. Thanks for the advice

Got my paint and clear coat today trying to get ready for the weekend
hopefully things will go smooth this is my first metallic paint job so fingers
crossed. I took the sample as suggested and the guy had me match it up to
his chips out in the sun and then he looked at them also we both agreed on the
darker shade of Ford J7 magnetic.

I finally got the hood and bumper sprayed this weekend after numerous
issues. I tried out some disposable cups which worked great and the paint
seemed to go good but not perfect some of the drips from the sealer showed
up in the paint I had missed a couple spots not big ones but still made me
aggravated that I didn't catch them and a few blemishes all my fault but overall
it's a good daily driver paint job. The paint they sold me worked great and the clear
went on good also. I mounted the bumper partially this afternoon and it matches
pretty good enough that I don't think I will have to blend anyway. I'll post a few
pictures and thanks for the advice guys. I appreciate it, also I am still working on
my other paint project on my Scout that I will be posting picture on in the near
future right now I am about to be working a lot and will have to resume on it
in November.
