What caused this

What caused this and how do I prevent this? The only way I know to fix this is sand and respray. |

How many coats of base did you apply?
Lighter colors often take more coats to get full coverage or what I call True Color. My standard practice with darker colors is 3 coats of base even though the product I use covers well with just two coats. 1968 Coronet R/T

I used PPG Omni+. Applied 3 full coats (thought 2 coats were a little thin)

I am not a fan of Omni paint, used it once and that was enough for me.
If two coats looked thin, then three probably wasn't enough to get the coverage necessary. Hopefully, some others will offer their thoughts on this as well. 1968 Coronet R/T

yep, probably not enough coats. some yellows are really translucent and don't cover well and cheap products magnify this.

Take it outside to make sure it's not a reflection,
also, did you allow plenty of flash time before clearing it? Sometimes the clear can mess with the base if the base isn't dry enough. (just thinking out loud) could very well be not enough coats or applied to wet. JC.

Thanks for the quick replies. I will pull it in the Sun but am pretty sure it isn’t a reflection. The other 2 panels I painted have a consistent color so I am still scratching my head. Just hate to redo when so much time and $ invested.
What base would you use instead of Omni+? |

You will get varied responses to this because there are a number of quality products.
I personally like Automotive Art's Motobase LV base coat. It mixes 1:1, sprays and covers great. The pricing is reasonable with shipping to my door in Arizona: I purchase it from here: https://www.autorodtechnologies.com/cha ... -and-audio Chad's Paint Supply 13477 California Rd. New Troy, MI 49119 Phone: 269-426-6000 Give them the paint code information and ask for a quote including shipping to your address. 1968 Coronet R/T
